Automatic security updates
Installs security updates automatically every day.
Runs on
- Debian / Ubuntu: supported
- RHEL / Fedora: supported
- Alpine: not available — Alpine has no automatic update service. Run apk upgrade regularly instead.
What it changes on your server
- Debian and Ubuntu: installs unattended-upgrades and turns on its daily run (security updates only, the package default).
- RHEL and Fedora: installs dnf-automatic, set to apply security updates only, and enables its daily timer.
- Services may restart after updates; the server itself isn't rebooted.
What Shellbay asks you
Nothing. This workflow needs no details from you.
Steps
- Refresh the package list
- Install the updater
- Turn on daily security updates
- Check it's scheduled
Shellbay checks the server before the first step, and stops at the first step that fails.
When it's done
- Security updates now install automatically every day.
