Node.js LTS

Installs a long-term-support release of Node.js and npm from NodeSource.

Runs on

  • Debian / Ubuntu: supported
  • RHEL / Fedora: supported
  • Alpine: supported — Installs the Node.js version Alpine ships (for 3.20, Node.js 20).

What it changes on your server

  • Adds the NodeSource repository (signing key checked) on Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL and Fedora.
  • Installs nodejs, which includes npm.

What Shellbay asks you

  1. Which Node.js version?

    24 is the current long-term-support release. Choose 22 only if your app needs it; it gets security fixes until April 2027.

Steps

  1. Install download tools
  2. Add the NodeSource repository
  3. Install Node.js
  4. Check the installed version

Shellbay checks the server before the first step, and stops at the first step that fails.

When it's done

  • Node.js and npm are installed. Check with node --version.
