Docker Engine and Compose
Installs Docker Engine with the Compose plugin from Docker's official repository.
Runs on
- Debian / Ubuntu: supported
- RHEL / Fedora: supported
- Alpine: supported
What it changes on your server
- Adds Docker's repository (signing key checked) on Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL and Fedora; uses Alpine's packages on Alpine.
- Installs Docker Engine, containerd, Buildx and the Compose plugin, and starts Docker.
- Optionally lets your account run docker without sudo.
What Shellbay asks you
Use Docker without sudo?
This adds your account to the docker group. Anyone in that group can take full control of the server, the same as root, so only turn it on for accounts you'd trust with root. It takes effect the next time you sign in.
- Let my account use Docker without sudo
- On or off. Default: off
Steps
- Install download tools
- Add Docker's repository
- Install Docker
- Start Docker and enable it at boot
- Set up the docker group
- Check Docker responds
Shellbay checks the server before the first step, and stops at the first step that fails.
When it's done
- Docker and Compose are installed and running.
- If you added your account to the docker group, sign out and in again to use docker without sudo.
