Caddy web server

Installs Caddy, a web server that gets and renews HTTPS certificates by itself.

Runs on

  • Debian / Ubuntu: supported
  • RHEL / Fedora: supported
  • Alpine: supported

What it changes on your server

  • Adds Caddy's official package repository (signing key checked) or uses Alpine's package.
  • Installs, enables and starts the caddy service on port 80.
  • Adds a minimal site to /etc/caddy/Caddyfile only if it has no configuration yet.

Steps

  1. Check port 80 is free
  2. Install download tools
  3. Add Caddy's repository
  4. Install Caddy
  5. Give Caddy a default site if it has none
  6. Start Caddy and enable it at boot
  7. Check Caddy is serving

Shellbay checks the server before the first step, and stops at the first step that fails.

When it's done

  • Caddy is serving on port 80. Edit /etc/caddy/Caddyfile to add your site; with a domain name Caddy gets HTTPS automatically.
